Speaking Out On Climate Change

The last two articles I published on climate change (see below) touched on the positive effects plants have on the climate, and how a Nobel Prize winner in physics announced that there is no climate crisis. But this article on climate change is a story of censorship.

Nobel Prize Winner Rejects Climate Crisis

Sadly there is a large contingent pushing climate alarmism. Many of these people reside within the mainstream media, government, universities, and even the sciences. They want to instill fear in people, and Dr. Matthew Wielicki explains why.

In the following PragerU video, Dr. Wielicki, a geologist, points to ways universities have changed. At one time universities were based on merit, but now they care more about what a student looks like. There used to be a healthy competition for ideas, but now it’s about the characteristics of a student. These harmful changes have contributed to many societal problems, including weakening the sciences. No longer is there a pursuit of truth, but a pursuit of a narrative. And in order to maintain that narrative, there must be censorship.

Dr. Wielicki found out the hard way that speaking against climate change is taboo. When he gave a lecture in his Introduction to Geology class he spoke on Climate Realism- telling students that the world wasn’t going to end just because the climate changes. His students welcomed his message of hope, but his fellow faculty members did not. And as he published his findings on social media, faculty members began accusing him of “committing violence” and “putting their jobs and their safety in jeopardy.”

There’s a disconnect, says Wielicki, between science and the media and activist scientists. He says the data is clear: “There is no metric that we can call the current state of the climate a crisis or an emergency or a breakdown. They’re trying to elicit fear. When people are afraid, they are most vulnerable to changing their behaviors.” Bingo!

That’s an important component to understand. People are giving up their freedoms because this contingent is causing great alarm. Today’s students are experiencing anxiety issues over what they perceive to be a climate crisis. Why? Because that’s how President Biden and the media describe it, and it’s damaging the mental health of many people who don’t know enough to question it. Dr. Wielicki says the science doesn’t support such fears, and he calls those fears “irrational.”

Instead of fostering tolerance and a free exchange of ideas, the University of Alabama engaged in censorship by demanding compliance to a narrative. Dr. Wielicki left the university because he had become an outcast. He had questioned a deeply held ideology, and as a result his voice was suppressed.

As Dr. Wielicki stated, science is supposed to be about the “discovery of truth” and the pursuit of knowledge, and one way scientists do that is through discussion. But there are too many in positions of power who don’t want that discussion to take place. They’d rather impose a false narrative and silence the opposition.

Check out this short 8-minute video for yourself and take a stand against climate alarmism.
