The biblical account of the global flood recorded in the book of Genesis has long been questioned by skeptics; some claim the event is based on a local flood in Mesopotamia, or it derives from a Babylonian flood myth. These claims, however, are based upon an opposing worldview which actively denies a historical, global flood. Therefore, the evidence is either ignored or misinterpreted.
Nonetheless, this article from Discover Magazine is but one line of evidence for a global flood. The headline states: These 5 Dinosaur Nests Are Among the Biggest Ever Found.
Cool. Fossilized dinosaur eggs are very rare, not just because dinosaurs are extinct, but because the process of fossilization itself is rare. Fossilization requires specific conditions, such as rapid burial and sediment rich in minerals which can preserve or replace the organic material or leave impressions. But where do these mineral-rich sediments come from? Caves are one source, but no one is claiming that dinosaurs built their nests in caves.
Interestingly, all five dinosaur nests listed involve floods and catastrophic events. For instance, 256 titanosaur eggs from 92 different nests found in India were laid in what scientists describe as a riverbank and floodplain. Not surprisingly, researchers consider a flood to be responsible.
The second nesting site was in Spain’s Pyrenees mountains, where scientists discovered around 300,000 dinosaur eggs along with fossilized bones across a beach where “some cataclysmic event buried them.”
The third site has been referred to as a dinosaur graveyard and consisted of more than 100 Mussaurus eggs in Argentina, some of which still contain embryos. In addition, the find included fossils of hatchlings, juveniles and adults, and they’re all thought to have lived by a lake where they were quickly buried by a flash flood and volcanic ash. In fact researchers found eleven juveniles “intertwined and overlapped… as if they had been suddenly thrown together.” Again, the biblical flood provides a solid explanation, as it explains why such large animals would have died together and been quickly buried.
The fourth site is from Northern China and includes over 300 pterosaur eggs, some of which contained embryos. It is believed these eggs were laid on the shoreline, and it is suggested that the eggs were “fossilized in lake sediments disturbed by fast-moving water, a sign that storms may have flooded a nesting site and sent the eggs bobbing into a large lake, where soupy mud entombed them.”
The fifth and final example (from China) contained dozens of oviraptor nests from various sites with up to 30 eggs each. But what’s most interesting is that one of the nests was found with the mother still incubating the young when disaster struck, and they were all buried in a mudslide together.
Okay, skeptics would claim that none of these discoveries prove there was a world-wide flood. And that’s true to the extent that science isn’t about proof. But it’s also fair to point out that neither have evolutionists proven that these eggs were buried in separate local floods throughout history. That’s conjecture based on an evolutionary worldview. But what happens when we examine all this evidence through the lens of a biblical worldview? All of a sudden the evidence for a global flood comes to life.
Consider, it’s speculated that the Titanosaur eggs were laid on a floodplain when they were buried; the eggs from Spain were on a beach when they were buried; the Mussasaur eggs were buried in a flashflood by volcanic ash; the Pterosaur eggs were buried along a shoreline by fast-moving floodwater sediment; and the oviraptor eggs were all buried in a mudslide along with a mother protecting the nest.
What do they all have in common? Large-scale watery cataclysmic deaths in which the dinosaurs and their eggs were quickly buried and covered in mineral-rich sediment. All this evidence is consistent with what would have occurred during a global flood. And it’s something we don’t generally observe today, even though flooding occurs throughout the world. Why? Because the conditions aren’t right.
To be sure, evolutionists aren’t going to surrender. They will always propose explanations that don’t require a single, world-wide flood. Indeed, they rely upon unreliable dating methods, unprovable assumptions and propose multiple sedimentary layers. This allows them to date these catastrophes at different times and locations throughout history. But creationists suggest the evidence points to a year-long flood and its aftermath as being responsible for what we observe.
Consider geologic events that happened within our lifetimes, such as Mt. St. Helens. When Mt. St. Helens erupted in 1980 it produced landslides, volcanic ash, mud flows and steam, and it produced a number of sedimentary layers 600 feet thick. Even more amazing, all this happened within minutes! Later eruptions produced canyons up to 140 feet deep in a day. In contrast, the geologic features produced by a global flood would be far more catastrophic, producing the conditions necessary for preserving animal bones, eggs and footprints.
Therefore, it is reasonable to suggest that these 5 examples of the biggest dinosaur nests ever found are an excellent source of evidences supporting the biblical flood as a real, historical event.
When reading about fossil discoveries, look for clues regarding their preservation. In nearly every instance the researchers will reveal a watery, cataclysmic event, notably a flood. And while evolutionists would like to convince you that it was only a local flood, we should remain skeptical and consider if the evidence better fits a global flood.
