When debating evolutionists, one of their favorite claims is to deny any evidence for a world-wide flood. Even when confronted with the evidence, they won’t allow it because they believe the evidence may only be counted in their favor… “Heads I win, tails you lose.”
However, if the evidence is objectively analyzed, then it becomes apparent that the entire earth was once covered in water. This is important because some question the credibility of the Bible and deny that it is God’s word. According to the book of Genesis (chapters 6-9), God flooded the entire earth because of man’s wickedness, but he saved Noah, his wife, their three sons, and their son’s wives, along with land animals, aboard an ark. Many evolutionists mock this as a mythological or regional event, however, if evidence for a global flood exists, then God’s existence is apparent, and the Bible’s account of earth history is true. And this revelation, in turn, should impact our lives.
In this article from Sci Tech Daily, I’ll concentrate on the study published in The Geological Society of America. The article’s headline states, “Rewriting Textbooks: Geologists Uncover New Secrets in the Ancient Layers of the Grand Canyon”.
This headline is fascinating because we’re often told that science is settled. In other words, once the consensus has declared something factual, then it can no longer be questioned. But here we find that textbooks are being rewritten, which implies that science has changed. If this is true, then consensus in science is irrelevant to truth, and we should be discerning- if not skeptical- about anything touted as consensus. In fact, one caption states, “This research highlights the evolving nature of science…” Fascinating. Who knew science could ‘evolve’?
Secondly, the Grand Canyon is a treasure trove for creationists, so these findings are welcome. Creationists have long pointed out how the canyon’s existence is best explained by a global flood, and this article, although conducted by evolutionists, supports the Bible’s historicity.
The article refers to “updated perspectives of an iconic sedimentary record.” Again, evolutionists have used the ‘iconic’ sedimentary record to advance their evolutionary theory and a long age agenda as fact, so I’m glad an updated perspective is permissible.
Next we have the Cambrian Explosion, which is another line of evidence for a global flood. This period refers to a sedimentary layer containing the sudden appearance of fully formed animal phyla (brachiopods, echinoderms, worms, mollusks, arthropods, chordates, sponges) in the fossil record with a wide range of body plans. This poses a challenge to evolutionists, who hold to slow, gradual changes over millions of years. However, no such changes are found in the fossil record. But sudden appearance is exactly what the Bible implies we should expect.
According to Professor Carol Dehler, one of the studies’ participants, this sequence “holds a treasure trove of sedimentary layers and fossils chronicling the Cambrian Explosion some 540 million years ago, when the first vertebrates and animals with hard shells rapidly proliferated and sea levels rose to envelop continents with emerging marine life”.
Did you catch the clues for a global flood? Flood sediment covering the continents with marine animals during the flood would explain their sudden appearance in the fossil record and why there’s no evidence of evolution. If these organisms were created by God on Day 5, then we wouldn’t (and couldn’t) observe any evolution. Second, the reference to rising sea levels to ‘envelop continents with emerging marine life’ is exactly what would be expected if a global flood happened, and it would explain why we observe marine life on all the highest mountains.
Dehler states, “Because Grand Canyon rocks record global changes in climate and tectonics, our work helps us understand strata that were deposited worldwide during the Cambrian period.”
Of course evolutionists believe the Cambrian Explosion took place between 542 and 530 million years ago, but that’s 12 million years with no evolution. Nonetheless, evolutionists refer to global changes in climate, tectonics, and worldwide deposition, which is exactly what creationists expect, except these global conditions would have happened over a one-year period.
Here’s a good quote from researcher James Hagadorn. He said, “You can see clues and discern at least part of what happened. But determining how it happened and the sequence of events takes time and effort. Just like the scene of a crime, the rock record of the Grand Canyon is much more complicated than what we currently know and its story is still being written.”
Exactly. All this is important because it’s safe to say that evolutionists don’t have all the answers, and we don’t have to accept their story. An alternate explanation for the existence of sedimentary layers is perfectly reasonable, and the creation model offers the best explanation.
The study focused on what Dehler refers to as “the effects of catastrophic tropical storms – probably more powerful than today’s devastating hurricanes – during a period of very hot temperatures when the Earth was ice-free.” Wow, that’s exactly what creationists have been saying. We’ve been describing the catastrophic effects associated with a global flood, including tropical storms more powerful than anyone alive has witnessed. Creationists also expect tropical conditions prior to the flood, even in Antarctica. We expect hot temperatures and the sea to be ice-free, not just due to the heat caused by plate tectonics, but because there was a tropical environment prior to the flood.
Lastly, the article admits sea levels were so high that rocks were deposited on every continent on earth, and this is consistent with a global flood.
So the evidence for a global flood is abundantly clear, and the Grand Canyon is just one piece of evidence. Evolutionists still believe in evolution, but their theory is contradicted by the evidence. God did indeed cover the entire earth in water, and he saved Noah and his family and the animals on board the ark, and they repopulated the earth as we see it today.
