Was Noah’s Flood Global? Part V

Here’s the final installment of this series, and it explores the scientific evidence for a global flood. Atheists don’t believe there’s any evidence for a global flood, but, sadly, neither do theistic evolutionists and old earth creationists. They reject the plain meaning of Scripture for modern myths. Yet the evidence is literally all around us.

If there was a global flood, what evidence would we expect to see? Well, here’s a very short list:

Flood legends: Ancient people groups from all over the world have flood legends matching the biblical account. If there was a global flood, we’d expect the survivors to pass their experiences on to subsequent generations. And this is exactly what we find. Examples of native North Americans (Apache, Tohono, Pawnee, Hopi, Menominee, Havasupai, Hualapai, Navajo, Cochiti, Sauk, Shawnee, Iroquois, Cherokee, Ojibwe and Cree). Central and South America (Mayan, Guatuso, Panamanians, Caribbean, Incas, Arawaks, Wajapi, Aztecs). Africa (Yoruba, Kwaya). China, India, Russia, Greece, Mesopotamia, Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, Peru, Scandanavia, Tanzania, Australia, Hawaii. So far there are more than 300 identified.

Fossils in water-deposited rocks: Secular geologists admit that nearly all the world’s sedimentary rocks are water-deposited. Billions of plants and animals were buried catastrophically in sediments deposited by moving flood waters around the world. Sandstone, shale and limestone cover most of the earth’s crust, filled with fossils. The presence of marine fossils on mountains and vast layers of sedimentary rock point to catastrophic, water-driven processes. Rapid burial and preservation are evidence of a sudden, massive event, not slow processes over millions of years.

Rapidly deposited sediment layers spread across vast areas. Extensive sedimentary deposits can be traced across and between continents. These are relatively thin and extend for hundreds of thousands of miles and show evidence for rapid deposition from flowing water that covered large areas of land.

Rapid magnetic reversals: Secular scientists assume changes in Earth’s magnetic field took thousands to millions of years. However, studies show that some reversals happened quickly, in days or months. The rapid movement of water and tectonic plates during the Flood would have caused dynamic changes in the Earth’s core, leading to fast reversals.

Ice Age: best be explained by a global flood. After the flood the oceans would have been hotter from tectonic and volcanic activity. The warm water led to increased evaporation. But volcanic dust and ash filled the atmosphere, blocking the sun and cooling the land. Warm oceans and cool land produced perfect conditions for heavy and continued snowfall.

Marine fossils on the tops of mountains

Rapid burial of plants and animals

 Sediment transported long distances

Rapid or no erosion between strata

Many strata laid down in rapid succession

Large Igneous Provinces (LIPs) or continental flood basalts are enormous accumulations of volcanic and intrusive rocks covering over 38,000 square miles. They are formed quickly by the eruption massive amounts of magma, but they don’t occur today.

Plate tectonics: A global flood best explains Continental drift and its mechanism.

Rapid or no erosion at the boundaries between sedimentary strata.

Spikes in volcanic activity and rapid release of CO2 prior to the Cambrian.

 Geological strata

 Inselbergs

Fossil footprints millions of years before the fossilized organism

 Dinosaur tracks in ocean sediment

 Transcontinental Rock Layers

 Layers of sedimentary rocks

 Marine fossils, fossil graveyards, sediment.

Sea levels rose to envelop continents. Strata deposited worldwide during the Cambrian.  Catastrophic tropical storms more powerful than today’s devastating hurricanes.

Sedimentary layers, marine bearing fossils, erosion, bioturbation.

Whopper Sand in Gulf of Mexico. Huge amounts of sediment dumped into ocean basin.

Canyons worldwide and the Grand Canyon.

 Cambrian Explosion

 Dinosaur fossil evidence

The best evidence for a global flood is, of course, the Bible itself. It is, after all, God’s Word. Evidence from across the earth testifies to this truth. If you’re not convinced, please weigh the evidence presented in this five-part series and study Genesis 6-10. We can trust God’s own testimony.
